Sandra has spent a lifetime manipulating objects into art, whether it is paint, glass, polymer clay, beads or found objects like buttons, old silverware, bottle caps, aluminum cans, coins or keys.
Most of her artwork is nature inspired. As a youngster, she would spend hours drawing pictures of bugs, flowers and trees. As a teenager majoring in art, she had the opportunity to experiment with a broader spectrum of ideas and mediums but she enjoyed the nature inspired work the most. In her adult life she received additional training in jewelry making, metalsmithing and stained glass, where she always tried to incorporate a natural theme.
She creates unique jewelry, ornaments and functional items like hand and wall mirrors from vintage silverware. She started with angels and has added dragonflies, butterflies, bees, birds, and trees. Spoon pendants are a relatively new addition to her line of artwork and most reflect a natural theme. Hand mirrors are fabric backed and recycled beads adorn the outer edges. Wall mirrors incorporate various pieces of vintage silverware and stained glass pieces, resulting in one-of-a-kind home décor.
Her favorite medium to work with is polymer clay. Polymer clay is easy to work with, comes in a variety of colors and, once properly cured, can last a lifetime. Her sculptures and jewelry are all whimsical characters taken from nature, and many are embellished with semi precious gemstones, pearls, glass, shells and/or stones. Each sculpture is unique and has a story to tell.
Sandra's artwork has earned her a following on the local arts and crafts circuit including juried shows such as the Baycrafters Renaissance Fayre, the Greater Cleveland Art & Gallery Festival (Sparx Gallery Hop), Berea Fine Arts Club Mayfest and others. My work is currently in the Pear Tree Gallery in Avon, OH and the Lake Erie Artists Gallery in Tower City Center in downtown Cleveland, OH. My artwork is also sold through specialty shops, boutiques and art shows. A schedule of her events is available on her website (www.lakebreezearts.com).
Additionally, she has taught art to elementary students in the North Olmsted school system, and she is a member of The Ohio Arts & Crafts Guild (OACG), the National Polymer Clay Guild (NPCG) and she is the secretary of the Artists Learning From Artists (ALFA) organization.
